We had some strong praise for Housemarque's latest efforts with Returnal. We awarded it 4.5/5 stars, and it's witnessed strong critical reception across the board, but some reviews noted a few minor issues with gameplay bugs and performance drops.
As we'd expect, Returnal's also got a day one patch to fix them. Calling it update 1.003.000, it comes in at a hefty 10.4GB to fix those issues, although we've yet to receive the full patch notes from Housemarque.
Returnal's 10GB Day One Patch Is Now Live, Bringing Performance And Bug Fixes
Reportedly, this update adds further performance optimisations, alongside a few audio/visual fixes too. Furthermore, players can also expect further gameplay balancing. extra tutorials, and sounds like an all-round improvement.
Speaking about Returnal's launch reception, Housemarque CEO "Ilari Kuittinen published a blog post, stating "In the age when game publishers are taking less and less creative risks, we are truly thankful to our publishing partner Sony, who has given us an opportunity to work on something very risky and has given fantastic support during the whole project. We are forever grateful for having this opportunity."
Having previously made their name with shoot 'em up games like Super Stardust HD and Resogun, Returnal's a refreshing change of pace. By all accounts, their efforts appear to have paid off.
