Returnal features a whole host of powerful weapons to experiment with. The manner in which you find, equip and use weapons is a little bit different from what you may be used to however, given that you start with a basic handgun and have to locate upgrades. In this Returnal Switch Weapons guide we'll show you how to switch weapons, and how to find better weapons as you go.

How to Switch Weapons in Returnal
To switch weapons in Returnal you will need to find new guns. You will only have one weapon equipped at at time, and cannot, for example, switch to a sidearm while fighting. Because of this, you'll need to be constantly equipping new weapons as you find them, and as your Proficiency increases.
Getting New Weapons
New weapons in Returnal will drop from certain enemies, and come from chests. You'll usually get a weapon drop for powerful enemies, so make sure to look for any red loot drops that spawn after you've cleared an area. Make sure you're opening chests as you go, weighing up whether Malignant Chests are worth it for what you need at the time. As your Proficiency increases you will gain access to better weapons. There is always a handgun of some sort right before a boss fight too.
