Returnal is an extremely brutal game. You start off with little more than a handgun each time you die, and there's very little you can do to make yourself stronger as you play. Because of this, Returnal can be difficult to beat, it took me hours to even clear the first biome. In this Returnal Difficulty guide we'll take a look at whether or not you can change the difficulty, and what you can do to make the game easier for yourself.

Can You Change the Difficulty in Returnal?

You cannot adjust the difficulty in Returnal. Unfortunately, there are no real difficulty options to speak of, with no way to make the game easier in the settings. Because of this, you will need to rely on your own skill and understanding of the game's mechanics to improve. There is an aim assist at least.

How to Make the Game Easier

The main way to make Returnal easier is to collect Ether. You can then spend it at the monolith in the starting area to unlock new items. This will instantly give you a bonus, and will give you a wider range of items for the game to offer you while you play. I'd also recommend focusing on Adrenaline, making sure to keep it as high as possible. For more in-depth advice visit our Returnal Tips guide.
