The new Dead Space game is actually a Dead Space reboot, VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb says.
His report follows previous statements from Eurogamer and Gematsu that said EA and Motive are developing a reimagining of Dead Space instead of a full new entry.
However, don’t expect the Dead Space remake to just be a prettier version of the original.
Grubb said the Dead Space remake draws heavily on the philosophy behind Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake.
In other words, it modernizes and adds new elements, including some from later Dead Space games.
Rumor: EA's New Dead Space Game Is a Modern Reimagining of the Original
Grubb said the RE2 remake inspired the Dead Space remake in more ways than one.
Capcom’s success with Resident Evil following the updated classic’s release showed EA there’s still a market for horror, he said.
That combined with EA’s new emphasis on single-player games meant reviving Dead Space was a natural next step.
What that means for Dead Space 4 remains uncertain for now, though we’d be surprised if the remake didn’t predicate a brand-new entry.
Either way, we don’t have long to wait until we find out.
EA Play Live 2021 takes place July 22.
