With Tears of the Kingdom now having arrived, most Legend of Zelda fans have spent the majority of the past couple of weeks relentlessly exploring the picturesque plains of Hyrule.
Regardless of what you’ve thought of Nintendo’s latest release so far, odds are the array of engaging activities and interesting characters on offer will keep you entertained for a good while yet.
Though some have been busy cowering from Gloom Hands, lots of players seem to have been dedicating their majority of their time to building and sharing interesting contraptions that can unleash waves of destruction or make exploration easier, though the game’s latest update has made gathering the materials for these creations a bit more difficult.
How do you feel about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s latest update getting rid of duplication glitches?
The feature of this update, dubbed Version 1.1.2, that’s currently causing some commotion within community that's recently created Hylian Segways, Korok monster trucks and killer Beyblades, is the fact that, as Nintendo puts it: “Several issues have been addressed to improve the gameplay experience.”
What this has principally meant for players is that the array of duplication glitches discovered during the game’s brief lifespan to this point no longer work, forcing the Links of the world to build up their resource stashes without any help from exploits.
As you might imagine, this hasn’t gone down too well with a lot of them, with several threads across the subreddits r/zelda and r/tearsofthekingdom seeing players share their frustrations at having to go back to working hard for items.
“The game is plenty long without the resource grind,” declared user PhDExtreme in one of these threads, while SmAll_boi7 argued: “The fact I exploited a dupe glitch for 30 minutes (prior to the update) and likely cut several hours off the armour upgrade grind really says something, and it isn’t a good thing.”
Some have seemingly gone to some pretty extreme lengths to stop their game from updating to the latest version, with strategies (none of which we’d recommend trying) including turning off Wifi routers, opting out of automatic update downloads, and even refusing to close the game or turn off your Switch at the end of a Zelda session.
That said, it seems that there’s also a sizeable contingent of players who are happy to see the glitches gone, such as user Spal23, who said: “(This is) probably an unpopular take, but I’m kind of glad. This was like a drug that was ruining my overall experience, but I couldn’t stop myself (due to) just knowing it was possible.”
