PocketPair’s open world survival game Palworld has thrust past another sales milestone, this time hitting 8 million copies sold across Xbox and Steam.

Even without a Palworld PlayStation port or a Palworld Nintendo Switch port, the controversial Pokémon clone has been tremendously successful. Despite being on Xbox Game Pass, millions of gamers are still buying the game.

In a post on Twitter, developer PocketPair revealed that 8 million copies of the new game have been sold. This number only includes copies sold on Steam, not on console.

“Palworld has sold over 8 million copies in less than 6 days!” the post reads. “Thank you very much!! As stated previously, we continue to work at full-speed on addressing bugs and issues. Thanks for your support!”

A Palworld roadmap has been released by the developer, showing exactly what updates are planned for the future. This includes PvP modes, cross play functionality and much more.

Nevertheless, the popularity of Palworld has remained controversial as Pokémon fans accuse the game of plagiarism. The controversies have even resulted in death threats being sent to developers over the past week.

Since the release of the game, a statement from The Pokémon Company has been released discussing the game’s alleged plagiarism. However, it seems that no legal action is currently planned to take place.

In our review of Palworld, we did note the visual similarities to the Pokémon franchise. For example, multiple creatures use the design language of Pokémon to similar effects, but it can’t be stated as pure plagiarism.

Furthermore, the game’s survival genre gameplay is largely different to Game Freak’s franchise. By crafting gliders and exploring towers, the game is more similar to Ark or Valheim than that of Pokémon.

Palworld is currently available exclusively on Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC, although you can also play Palworld on mobile. While PlayStation execs are actively looking to bring the game to PS5, it seems that it will take a while to happen.
