Breakdown

  • Palworld is inspiring other games and the CEO is okay with that
  • The CEO feels that gaming gets better when you can build on what's established
  • Tencent is working on mobile games similar to Palworld

Palworld clearly took inspiration from the Pokémon series, so it’s only natural for other companies to try and emulate the success Pocket Pair, Inc. has received. Rather than be bitter about it, the company’s CEO is actually happy that other companies are using their game for inspiration.

Takuro Mizobe, the CEO of Pocket Pair, Inc., responded to reports of Tencent making a Palworld-like experience for phones, saying he’s proud of it. Mizobe’s defense of this is that gaming devs thrive when they build on existing ideas, which makes sense since their game is every marketable game idea under the sun.

“I’m proud that other companies want to make games like Palworld,” Mizobe said on Twitter. “The industry historically innovates when we borrow ideas from games we love.”

Since everyone knows that Pocket Pair’s game was heavily influenced by Pokémon, it makes sense that the company would be cool with other copycat games. Like we mentioned earlier, they basically combined every popular gaming idea into one neat little game, which ended up being a huge success.

While the game isn’t as popular as it was at launch, Palworld still did incredibly well and the survival sim with creature collecting is now receiving regular updates. Recently, the game got a Raid Boss and will soon be getting PvP through the Palworld Arena, which should make for fun multiplayer thrills.

It will be interesting to see what Tencent has planned and if their idea will do as well, though we’ll have to wait in that regard. Fans can say whatever they want about Pocket Pair’s game but that felt like a lighting in the bottle experience that can’t be replicated. We’ve seen dozens of games attempt to do what Pokémon does and this has been the only major success thus far.

Palworld is now available on Xbox Series consoles and PC. There is talk of bringing the game to other consoles, so fans can expect to see it pop up on Sony’s PlayStation 5 one of these days.
