Breakdown

  • Marvel Rivals was data mined, revealing 39 characters
  • This includes MCU favorites like Winter Soldier and comic-only heroes such as Squirrel Girl
  • Launching with 39 characters is a huge move

As many players expected, the Marvel Rivals Close Alpha has been data mined and a ton of characters have been leaked for the superhero shooter. The leaks claim that there will be 39 playable characters, 20 of whom haven’t been announced to the public as of this writing.

Well-known leaker Miller Ross (via Insider Gaming) posted the 39 rivals coming to the free-to-play shooter and fans will be happy with who’s in the game. It’s a good mixture of MCU favorites and characters who have yet to appear outside of the comics, which is exciting.

Here are the 39 leaked characters for Marvel Rivals:

  • Hulk
  • Punisher
  • Storm
  • Loki
  • Human Torch
  • Doctor Strange
  • Mantis
  • Hawkeye
  • Captain America
  • Rocket Raccoon
  • Hela

Considering the sheer variety of characters coming to Marvel Rivals, it will be interesting to see how unique each of them feel. It’s easy enough to deduce that characters like The Thing and Hulk will play very similarly. However, characters like Invisible Woman have unique powers that aren’t easily replicated by the other heroes and villains, at least in theory.

Something that catches our interest here is that Cloak & Dagger are listed as one character, which makes sense continuity-wise. These two characters literally need each other to use their powers properly. However, having the powers of light and darkness in one character could make them a really unique hero in the long run.

It’s clear that Marvel Rivals uses games like Overwatch as a huge inspiration, but that’s not a bad thing when you have a roster this large. Considering the number of characters available in the Marvel universe, it will be interesting to see who else gets added in the future.

Marvel Rivals doesn’t have a release date and will release on PC first, though it will likely come to PS5 and Xbox Series in the future.
