Breakdown

  • The devs of Helldivers 2 are trying to bring the game back to countries it was pulled from
  • Arrowhead has already spoken with Sony and Valve about the move
  • This never would have happened if Sony didn't force the PSN linking

Helldivers 2 has canceled its plans to force PSN integration for Steam users, but the game still hasn’t returned to the countries it was pulled from. The devs at Arrowhead are trying to bring their beloved multiplayer shooter back to these countries, but it’s taking a while.

On the game’s official Discord server (via GamesRadar), Arrowhead CEO and game director Johan Pilestedt told fans that they’re trying to bring this game back to other countries. Pilestedt said that they’ve talked with Sony and Valve about what happened, hoping they can resolve this fairly annoying issue.

When Sony originally announced that Helldivers 2 needed a PSN account, fans in over 170 countries were outraged to see that they couldn’t play the game anymore. Although gamers can choose what country their PSN account is from, that’s not possible to do with Steam unless you have a VPN. Naturally, this led to the game being pulled, which resulted in review-bombing and refunds galore.

Canceling the PSN integration is a step in the right direction, but Sony needs to bring these games back to countries that were able to play them before this happened. Pilestedt very much agrees with this statement, saying that he wants everyone around the world to enjoy this game. Hopefully, this can be amended soon, since there were numerous players in these countries who loved to play this game.

That’s not the only Helldivers 2 drama going around, as Arrowhead’s Community Director was fired after encouraging fans to get refunds and review-bomb this shooter. For the most part, this ex-Community Director doesn’t regret the move, as it was the right thing to do and did lead to the PSN linking getting canceled.

Helldivers 2 is readily available on PS5 and PC, with no PSN account required to play this game on the latter. At the time of writing, it still isn’t available in over 170 countries, but here’s hoping that fix comes soon.
