The Modern Warfare 2 preload is underway much to the excitement of players. Unlike the previous titles, those who pre-order the digital edition of the game can get their hands on Infinity Ward's latest single-player campaign a week before the full launch of the game.
The campaign sees the return of Captain Price and the rest of Task Force 141 as it attempts to deal with a new threat that could cause another worldwide disaster.

When can I preload the Modern Warfare 2 campaign?
Preloading for all platforms is well underway, with players able to install the campaign before the early access period begins while preloading for multiplayer and Special Ops begins on October 21.

By downloading the game ahead of launch, players can drop straight into the action as soon as the game unlocks.
How big is the Modern Warfare 2 campaign?
Activision is yet to share the full Modern Warfare 2 campaign file size but thanks to @PlaystationSize, we have information on the Modern Warfare 2 campaign size for PS4 and PS5 players.
The campaign for PS4 weighs in at 18.7GB while the PS5 version comes in at 16.7GB. This is great news for those low on hard drive space. However, it's important to remember the base game adds another 35GB for PS4 and 36GB for PS5, taking the totals to 53.7GB and 52.9GB respectively.
For Xbox users, the base game is 81.8GB in size which is significantly larger than PlayStation and PC download sizes. For Battle.net and Steam users, the game takes up 34.6GB and 29.9GB respectively.
Modern Warfare 2 campaign release date
Campaign early access begins on October 22, 2022, a full week before Modern Warfare 2 launches. This is ideal for those that want to play the campaign without losing much time while others jump into multiplayer for the first time.
For those that haven't pre-ordered a digital copy of the game, the campaign launches on October 28 alongside the rest of the game.

While you're enjoying early access of the campaign, pre-loading of multiplayer and the rest of Modern Warfare 2 begins. Here are all the dates you need to know:
- October 19 - Xbox preload begins
- October 20 - PlayStation regional rollout begins

For fans of the Modern Warfare series, 2022's Modern Warfare 2 campaign is definitely worth playing. The sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare continues the story and also includes the return of the notorious General Shepherd and the enigmatic Ghost.
