The most exciting time in a Minecraft player's year is mob vote season. Three new creatures are shown off, with the promise that one of them will be in an upcoming update. Excitement floods the internet, as everyone wants their personal favourite to win. We'll let you know right here when the 2023 Minecraft mob vote is!

Not everyone can be a winner, of course. Fans of the glow squid, allay, and sniffer have had their preferred creatures added to the game - but like previous votes, only one of this year's offerings will join the game. The others will be discarded, which always triggers controversy.

When does the 2023 mob vote start?

Minecraft's developers have helpfully provided the exact date and time that voters can prepare for. Like previous years, it's around the time of their Minecraft Live event, and voting is preceded by some teasers and showcase videos from their YouTube channel. The first new creature to be announced was the Crab, with the teaser promising a block-placing extension if players equip its claws. It will supposedly be found in mangrove swamp biomes.

The second teaser showed off the Armadillo, a potential addition to the game's Savannah biome. The teaser promises the ability to craft wolf armor from the armadillo's scutes.

The third and final teaser reveals Penguins, which will live in the Stony Shore biome. These feathered friends will apparently help boats travel faster and gather around the player - even if they're a bit 'clumsy' on land.

The teasers got fans excited, and further details were shared via the dev's official blog. Fans should get their votes in quickly, as the window to vote is short and will quickly fly by.

Voting will be open for longer this year, and you will have just over 48 hours prior to Minecraft Live to cast your vote! Voting opens at 1pm EDT on Friday, October 13, and closes at 1:15pm EDT on Sunday, October 15.

When does voting close?

How to vote in the 2023 mob vote

More important than the vote opening is the actual process of voting. Like last year, players will be able to cast their votes from within the game. Bedrock edition players can join a special live event server that promises mob parkour, mini-games, and of course, the ability to vote. It's safe to assume that this will be advertised front and centre in the game's launcher when it's ready.

Players who don't want to join the world have plenty of options too! Voting will also be possible on Minecraft.net, while the Minecraft launcher will also be counting votes. Players have plenty of options to make their voices heard, and we'll all hopefully be dancing like a Crab rave soon enough.
